A Masked Ball

This most tuneful of operas unfolds the destiny of Gustavus, the King of Sweden, who loves the wife of his dearest friend. The gallant king is threatened by a band of sinister yet darkly comic conspirators. But his friend is always there to guard him from danger – until he discovers the king alone at midnight with his wife. Friend turns to bitter enemy, and the climax is reached at a spectacular masked ball, where all is resolved in a moving and explosive finale.
